Case: How We Brought a Monobrand into the Top 5 for Branded Queries in 1.5 Months

GEO: Russia

Niche: betting / gambling

Timeline: 1.5 months

Site type: monobrand, 1 language version

Start: purchase of a low-cost auction domain

For the project launch, we selected an auction domain with a minimal number of indexed keywords. This allowed us to reduce initial costs and avoid a heavy legacy footprint that could negatively impact rankings.

We did not let the domain “age” or restore old content. Immediately after purchase, we deployed a new structure: homepage + essential service pages. Only one language version was used, optimized for the primary target region.

The site was launched as a monobrand, which in the gambling niche helps quickly align relevance for specific queries without spreading weight across multiple pages.

Indexing and “ghosts of the past”

Within 2–3 days after indexing, the site started ranking for old keyword phrases from the previous owner. Some of them unexpectedly entered the TOP 10, confirming that part of the previous semantic relevance was still retained.

At this stage, it was crucial not to disrupt the current momentum or rush into link building. Instead of aggressive black-hat link injections, we took a different approach: we retrieved an old EMD domain from the archive. It hadn’t shown strong performance before, but it had relevant topical history. We set up a 301 redirect from all its pages to the homepage of the new project.

Domain merging and its results

The redirects were activated immediately, without gradual rollout or testing. Within a few days, noticeable changes began in Google:

  1. Old queries previously tied to the domain started dropping out of the index,
  2. They were replaced by target keywords, initially with low positions.

We made no additional changes to content and did not touch the link profile. We simply left the site untouched for a week to allow Google to complete signal reassessment.

After 7 days, the situation changed dramatically:

  1. Google fully processed the domain merge,
  2. Branded queries began entering the TOP 10 in large numbers,
  3. Traffic started growing steadily.

Final results

Just 1.5 months after launch:

  1. The site consistently ranks in the TOP 5 for 20+ branded queries,
  2. Traffic comes from the exact keywords the site was optimized for,
  3. Implementation costs remained low (auction domain, single page, EMD donor, minimal content and link expenses),
  4. The project proved the effectiveness of domain merging even without deep warming or massive content production.

Key takeaways

📌 Even domains with minimal indexation can be launched quickly if you:

  1. choose the right timing
  2. don’t rush link building
  3. use proven technical merging methods

📌 It’s important to work not only with backlinks but also with the behavioral inertia of old domains. Sometimes a well-executed 301 redirect and minimal вмешательство give better results than aggressive SEO.
